A Family Tradition Since 1902
Funeral Options    |    Steps to Funeral Planning    |    Selection Room

In today's changing world, there is a marked focus on the personalization of funeral services. For instance, some families are seeing an emotional value that a wake or visitation may hold, but don't necessarily wish for the final disposition to be burial or entombment.

We are seeing a growing trend in what is referred to as a ceremonial service. A ceremonial service is merely a full traditional service (visitation, funeral with body present) and the only difference being instead of burial, the final disposition being cremation. Further, it is up to the family whether they would like to inurn the cremated remains to keep or to be interred at a cemetery of choice.

There is another trend worth noting, which is a derivation of the ceremonial and full traditional funeral service. A family can choose cremation as the final disposition and hold a memorial visitation and service. A memorial visitation and service is similar to a regular visitation and service with the only difference being that the body/casket is not present. Typically, floral tributes are sent and the family is available to greet friends and family who wish to come pay their respects.

There are many reasons that families would plan either of these types of services. It is important to us to provide each family with the type of service they choose.

Summary of Options:

Traditional Funeral Service: This type of service consists of a visitation/viewing the evening before the funeral service, followed by a short committal service at the cemetery.

Ceremonial Service:
This type of service consists of a visitation/viewing the evening before the funeral service followed by cremation.

Cremation or Anatomical Donation: A memorial service can be planned and can take place at the funeral home or at a church.

Out of Town Arrangements: These arrangements can be made over the phone. Bopp Chapel can work with the funeral home located out of town to make the transportation as easy as possible.

Granite Markers

There are 3 important considerations when purchasing a memorial:

  • Size affects the cost of production because the larger the monument, the more time required to manufacture it. Also, size influences cost by weight and surface area of granite which must be cut, polished or contoured.
  • Color Different colors of granite are quarried and shipped worldwide. Also, some colors will be more expensive because they are harder, requiring more labor to cut, shape and polish. Grey is the most popular granite in the cemetery.
  • Cemetery Requirements The type of memorial that one can purchase depends entirely on what the cemetery will allow. Bopp Chapel will contact the cemetery to find out what they will allow and provide you with selections to meet their requirements.
