|Helen Louise Graham (nee Hoagland),84, went home to her Lord and Savior on August 25, 2014. She was born on June 19, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Lyman E. Hoagland and Jane Hoagland.
Helen married Robert C. Graham in 1953, in St. Louis. They were happily married for 61 years. Helen was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Helen is survived by her spouse, Robert C. Graham; her sons Robert C. (Meredith) Graham III and Randall T. (Susie) Graham, her sister Georgette (Don) James of Prairie Village, Kansas, her grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Grassi, Randall T. (Lauren) Graham, Jr., Jessica (Corey) McCarthy, Jason (Brandi Jane) Graham of New York, Kourtney (David) Wirth, and Kate Graham, and great-grandchildren “Hank” Graham and Georgia Kate Graham; and her nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Helen grew up in Glendale, Missouri, and graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1948. After high school Helen attended DePauw University and University of Missouri at Columbia where she received a B.S. in Biology. Helen also did post graduate studies at Washington University and Covenant Seminary. Helen was an accomplished composer and wrote two musicals. She wrote the musical score for the overture to the School for Scandal, produced at Webster College (Loretto Hilton Theatre). In 1965, she collaborated with Mr. Martin Quigley, writing the music for the Cardinals baseball song, “The High Flying Redbirds.”
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Mary Jane DeVaney.
A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 2143 N. Ballas Rd., St. Louis Missouri 63131 at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2014.
