The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of John Geppert can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolence From: David Plufka
Condolence: I met John more than twelve years ago during the Brentwood comprehensive planning in 2005 and 2006. He was always a thoughtful and caring friend. John had the capacity and compassion to really listen. He engaged people on a very intimate level, and always seemed to communicate from a helpful perspective. I sought his advice many times, and in every instance I felt better for his insight.

I will miss him and his considerate acumen.

Condolence: John was the type of guy you could call day or night with life's problems or puzzles and he would gladly spend hours talking you through them. He never made you feel like a burden, but instead he was always thrilled to hear from you and share a conversation. He was a person that shared his soul when he talked, and one often felt he could see into theirs. He had a gift with words and advice and his love for those he cared about and Brentwood will be greatly missed.

Condolence: John was a wonderful friend. I will truly miss our conversations on my deck during his stays with me about politics, music, life or just nothing in particular. I didn't know that our talk around the end of February would be our last, but we had such a good note to end on, and I will cherish it forever.

"To live on in the hearts of those we leave behind is not to die."

Condolence: Since retiring and moving 'away from Brentwood', John and I spoke frequently about all things Brentwood. John epitomized the saying (modifed a little to fit the occasion) you can take John out of Brentwood but you can't take Brentwood out of John.

Condolence: John entered our lives last year, sharing views of life at the Sunday Music Socials in our Lower Alabama winter home. He had a nickname here from his friends - "Hemingway" - from his constant writing of observations and poetry in his ever present journal. Words were his paint, he was living his retirement developing his artistry. His last few years were in search of Utopia, and he says he found it here. We looked for him yesterday at this weeks Sunday Social. We learned of his passing from our hostess Cathy Steele. He always stood at the same viewing spot leaning on the same rail. I assumed his position for a few minutes, patted his writing surface, and wished him well in his further travels. I do and will miss him.

Condolence: John was a soul friend - we spoke for hours on end about Brentwood, family and the trials of life. He was a talker and a listener, a guiding mentor, a father figure, a friend, proud, wise, warm-hearted and sensitive all rolled into one. His passing will leave a void in my life and he will be dearly missed.

Condolence: John got me into the SBA world back in the ITT days. He was a great boss and teacher. I always told him he was like a second dad to me. I talked to him about 10 months ago and of course we talked about an hour and a half (as you know he was a talker) just catching up. I am glad he got to enjoy retirement and travel across the US as that was his true enjoyment besides visiting his kids and grand kids. I will miss him greatly! John, my you rest in peace.
