Kathryn R. Cooper (Rieth)
Kathryn R. “Kathy” Cooper, 83, fortified by the sacraments of Holy Mother church, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2018 from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease. She is predeceased by her parents, Harold F. and Adele Blume Rieth, her younger brother Walter H. Rieth, and late husband of 46 years, Roy G. Cooper.
Kathy graduated from the University of Missouri, School of Nursing in 1956. She moved from Columbia, MO to Fredericktown, MO with her husband and proudly worked as an operating room nurse until the birth of her children. The family relocated to Kirkwood, MO in 1966 and she remained in the suburbs of St. Louis the rest of her life.
Kathy and her husband purchased Federal and State Tax Service in 1974. She went back to school for accounting classes and kept the company books until 1997 when the business was sold. She was active in the parish of St. Gerard Majella Church for over 50 years. Kathy enjoyed playing tennis for many years, starting with summer leagues at Kirkwood Park, until she retired when in her 70’s. She also loved her weekends at Lake of the Ozarks and boating with family and friends.
Kathy is survived by her two children, Julie (Ron) Small and Andrew Cooper, granddaughter Ashley (Ryan) Griswold, newborn great-grandson David Ryan Griswold, her sister Marjorie (the late John F.) Bradford, her brother Robert W. (Susanne) Rieth, and her nieces and nephews.
