Marianne Wright Burnside November 13, 1928 - February 17, 2018
Marianne Wright was born in St. Louis, the daughter of William (Wayne) Wright and Signe Johnson Wright. She was named for her Aunt Anne, and was called Anne in her youth. She had three brothers – Wayne, John and Willy. She attended Soldan High School and then college at Augustana College in Rockport, Illinois. In college, she met Simon Abcouwer and they married and settled in Kirkwood, having three children, JoAnne, Jim and Steve. In 1960, Marianne returned to college at Webster University, received a Master’s Degree in Education and began teaching elementary school in Oakville in 1965 and for the next 25 years.
She married Dr. Charles Burnside in 1982 and they enjoyed 25 happy years in Kirkwood together, teaching, travelling and enjoying family. Her students, her grandchildren and Charles were her treasures. During the last three years, Marianne resided in Chelsea, Michigan to be near her son, Steve and his wife, Leslie. She died Saturday, very peacefully, under hospice care there.
In passing from this world, Marianne joins her late husband Charles, her beloved daughter JoAnne, her grandson Jason, her great grandson Calvin, and her life-long friend Gerry Martinez. Among the many who will miss her are her two sons, Jim and Steve Abcouwer, her daughters-in-law, Nancy and Leslie, her seven grandchildren – Christa Patrick, Angela Lisa Faroch, and Jamie, Kimberly, Ian, Neil, and Wesley Abcouwer. She leaves nine great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.
There will be a visitation at 9:00 am and service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 24 at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Road in Kirkwood. Marianne will be laid to rest at Valhalla Cemetery in St. Louis. Family from Michigan, Florida, Colorado and California will take part. All who knew her are invited to join us and more friends at Bopp Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) would be what Marianne would ask.
