Obituary for Thomas Cole

Thomas Cole
Thomas G. Cole passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 22, 2018. Beloved husband of Elaine S. Krul for 32 years; much loved father of Ellen M. Cole and Brian A. Cole. Dear son of the late Howard H. Cole, Jr. and Marcella C. Cole; cherished brother of the late Michael J. Cole (Anne), J. Patrick (Ellen) Cole, Missy (Mike Rutherford), Colleen Cole, Maureen (the late Walter) Booth; dearest son-in-law of Mary Krul and the late Stanley Krul and brother-in-law of Richard Krul; beloved uncle to Julie (Brandon Streiler), Michael J. Cole, Jr., the late Stephen C. Cole, Daniel and Benjamin Beaury and David DaSilva-Krul.

Thom was a 1966 Saint Louis High School graduate. He obtained his BS in Chemistry from St. Benedict’s College and MS and PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Missouri. Thom was a Diplomate of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry and a Fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry. Thom served as Director of the Core Lab for Clinical Studies at Washington University School of Medicine until 2004 when he assumed the role of VP and Laboratory Director of Linco Diagnostics in St. Charles, MO. He continued to serve as laboratory director and consultant until 2010 after Linco Diagnostics’ acquisition by Millipore. Thom then became an independent clinical laboratory consultant and a many year OASIS volunteer.

Thom enjoyed many activities, especially those that involved his family, including photography, home improvement projects, science projects and demos, skiing, biking, hiking and canoeing/rafting. His family and friends will remember him as the organizer of memorable trips to Trout Lodge and rafting venues. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a loving father, community volunteer and an accepting and non-judgmental soul.

Service: A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 31st from 4 to 8 PM at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Road, Kirkwood, MO. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Thom’s name to the Siteman Cancer Center, BJC Hospice or the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, St. Louis Chapter.
