side in Heaven on Sunday August 19, 2018. Bill was born on July 17, 1923 in St Louis, Missouri and his parents were, James and Elsie Schorr. Behnke and grandchildren Katie Vaughan LeMoine, Mark Vaughan,
Laura Behnke Taylor, Schorr Behnke, nine great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. He also had many dear friends at Laclede Grove and so enjoyed being with them in his final years.
Bill grew up in Pasadena Hills, Missouri and attended Normandy High School where he met his wife of 66 years, Marcy Obermann. He attended Washington University, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, but before getting his degree he joined the United States Navy and became an officer before completing his BS degree at Miami of Ohio University. He proudly served on the aircraft carrier USS Antietam during WWII. When he returned from the service to join his wife, Marcy and daughter Mary, Bill went to work at G.H. Walker as an investment advisor. He was mayor of Pasadena Hills. He retired from Merrill Lynch after 44 years. He lived at Laclede Grove Retirement Community since 2000.
Bill has always been sustained by his faith. In St Louis, he was active at Unity Lutheran in Bel-Nor, St John Lutheran in Ellisville, Webster Gardens Lutheran and in his summers in Michigan, which he loved, where he attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Michigan. He was an avid golfer at Normandy Golf Club and Glen Echo Country Club. Bill always made time for his family. He always had a big smile when he was with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
There will be a visitation at Webster Gardens Lutheran Church, 8749 Watson Road, Webster Groves, MO, at 9:30am on Saturday 8-25 followed by a service honoring Bill at 11:00am. He will be interred in a family service at St John Lutheran cemetery.
