S. Fred Hawkins, 83, passed away September 18, 2018. He was born in Phoenix, AZ, received his bachelor’s from Grand Canyon College and his master’s from Arizona State University.

He married Norma Goodner in 1955 and they had three children. He was a teacher, coach and school administrator for 40 years, including the Assistant Superintendent of Kirkwood School District from 1974-1996.

He was a member of Kirkwood Baptist Church since 1974 and attended Oak Bridge Community Church.

Throughout his professional career, Fred continued his hobby of leatherwork, making belts, billfolds, purses and wristbands and selling them at farmer’s markets and craft shows from 1970 to 2018. Among other craft shows, he was a fixture at the Kirkwood Greentree Festival for 44 years. Known as “The Leather Man” - Fred made many friends with his customers, other crafters and craft show officials.
