Obituary for Walter A. Seeger

Walter A. Seeger
Walter A. Seeger, Jr., suddenly on Saturday, November 24, 2018. Walt is survived by his wife, Jacqueline (Thornhill) Seeger and their children; Susan (Bill) Holthaus, Michael Frain and Sally (Tom) Hudson. He was grandfather to Bill (Jessica) Holthaus, Jr., Bobby Holthaus, Mike Holthaus, Liz Hudson, Megan (Steve) Schuler, Grace Hudson and Alison Frain, and great-grandfather to Charlie Schuler. Walt is survived by his brother, as well, Ronald A. Seeger of Barrington, Illinois.

Walt graduated from Brentwood High School. He then attended Washington University where his undergraduate studies were interrupted by the Korean War, serving for a few years with the United States Army Combat Engineers. He returned to complete his degree from Washington University, and earned a Master’s degree from St. Louis University while working for Hadley-Dean Glass Corporation. Walt moved on to executive positions with Tobey Fine Papers, Inc., serving wholesale distributors in eight states. The company’s ownership changed hands several times, until acquired by Koch Industries. Mr. Seeger served as the St. Louis Division’s President and CEO from 1972 until his retirement in 2000.

Walt was an active long-serving member on the Board of Directors of the German American Heritage Society of Saint Louis. His community involvement also included the Washington University Alumni Association, Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Missouri Botanical Gardens, Missouri History Museum, St. Louis Art Museum, and the St. Louis Zoo. Mr. Seeger was a longtime member of Sunset Country Club, who truly loved the game of golf. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. His suitcase was always ready for the next travel adventure.

Walt was greatly loved and appreciated. His family will miss him dearly.

Blessing and interment private. A celebration of Walt Seeger’s life for family and friends will be held at Sunset Country Club, Sunset Hills, Missouri, on Friday, November 30, 2018 from 3pm to 5pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Missouri Botanical Gardens or Salvation Army would be appreciated.
