Obituary for John Lawrence Fiedler

John Lawrence Fiedler
John Lawrence “Larry” Fiedler,
Friday, January 4, 2019. Beloved husband of the late Alice Fiedler (nee Kilgen) for 64 years; loving father of John Lawrence “Larry” (Jan) Fiedler, Jr., Charles K. “Chip” (Judy) Fiedler, and Richard R. “Rick” Fiedler; proud grandfather of Julie, Kristen (Kevin Staight), Matt, and Eric Fiedler; dear brother of Connie McManus, uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

Larry was part of the greatest generation and left home for the Merchant Marines (Kingspoint Academy) at 18. Something that forever changed him and gave him great confidence in himself. He loved to share stories about his time at sea, and delivering beer to the troops. (Often some went missing) He came home from the service and met the love of his life, Alice Kilgen. They married and started a family, and he began his career in the insurance industry. His career took him to Tulsa and Los Angeles and San Diego but they returned to their hometown after he retired.

Through 64 years of marriage, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He also loved business and never lost interest in discussing it with his family and friends. He loved racquetball and tennis, and played tennis well in to his 80's, always loving the competition and exercise. His smile, laugh and humor will be greatly missed, but we are comforted to know he is at peace with Alice.

The family want to express our gratitude to the staff at Mari De Villa for the care and comfort they provided both Alice and Larry in their final years.

Memorial Mass will be Saturday, January 19th, 11:00 at St. Anselm Parish, 530 S. Mason Road, followed by a reception in adjacent building. Interment private. Friends wishing may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, 9370 Olive Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63132.
