Joan M. Leighton (Ware)
Leighton, Joan (nee Ware) Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Thursday February 7, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Charles Leighton. Loving mother of Sherry (Bob) Barrett, Kim Leighton, and the late Chuck (Karen) Leighton. Grandmother of 10 and great grandmother of 12. Joan was born in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of Canadian immigrants. Her family moved to St Louis when she was a teen. Settling in Kirkwood, she and her husband Chuck raised 3 children. She had an eclectic career as a kindergarten teacher, a nurse aide at St Joseph’s Hospital in the Physical Therapy Department and also the Maternity Department. She completed her career working in various gift shops around St Louis and also decorating store windows at Plaza Frontenac. Joan and Chuck were avid boaters and loved their weekends at the Lake of the Ozarks with their friends on A Dock. Joan was a doting mom, grandmother and friend to anyone in need. Her generosity and hospitality were unmatched.
