Obituary for Mary A. Halloran (Dredge)

Mary A. Halloran (Dredge)
Mary Alice Dredge Halloran, age 93, Fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed into eternal life with her family at her side on July 4, 2019. She will be lovingly missed by daughters Nancy Tumbrink (Terry) and Maureen Walker (Doug). Grandchildren: Adam (Nicole), Elizabeth, Jonathon, Benjamin and Ryan. Great grandchildren: Brett, Chloe, Charlotte, Liam and Anri. She is predeceased by her father, George Dredge, mother, Ruth Rhodes Dredge and her beloved husband, John Joseph Halloran.

She was residing at Mason Pointe in Town and Country for the past year. The friends she made during that time were very close to her heart. She loved sharing stories and teasing with friends and staff in her very open and dry manner. She loved everyone!

In her early years, she had several jobs after graduating from Beaumont high school. It was the government job where she met the love of her life, John. After several months, they eloped and were married for 61 years. They shared adventures such as riding to California in a rumble seat with his sister Rita and brother-in-law Eddy and living in San Diego for a year before returning to St. Louis. They lived in a four family flat in south St. Louis with Mary’s cousin and his wife living in the same building before moving to their home of 62 years in Brentwood. It was here that they raised their daughters Nancy and Maureen. Family was always close and foremost. John’s Irish mother and five siblings and Mary’s English mother and Canadian father were a true example of love and diversity.

She had a passion for animals. She shared her life with two devoted cats, Chuck and Marley. In the past she has also had dogs, more cats, birds and rabbits, of course, sometimes with the encouragement of her daughters! She even expanded her love to become a vet tech at Brentwood Animal Hospital for many years.
She loved to be with family, play cards with her dear friends along with her beloved sister-in-law, Ginny. Mary traveled any chance she could, with family & friends around the globe even to see her beloved Cardinals play ball in Florida! She was in constant awe of the daily beauty of nature. She had a personality and sense of humor that was endearing. She could easily surprise you with a comment that would leave one laughing with tears streaming down one’s face!

Private burial will be held July 10, 2019 at Jefferson Barracks Memorial Cemetery.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 26, 2019, 10am at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Brentwood, Missouri. A reception will follow in the church hall.
