Obituary for William J. Maender

William J. Maender
On Friday, September 6, 2019, William J. Maender, was called home by God at the age of 73. He was a great man, husband, father and friend.

He is the beloved husband to Mary Ellen (Wittich) and the late Carol “Carrie”. Loving father of Michelle (Dennis) Davis, Christopher (Sally) Maender, Samantha (Jerry) Dean; loving stepfather of Robert (Michele) Maender, Cyndi Coffman, Chris (Amy) Usselman, Jonathon Usselman, Bridget Usselman Venghaus; proud grandfather of 17; dear brother of James Maender and Charles (Kay) Maender.

“Bill” was born July 21, 1946 in St. Louis, MO to Clarence and Lillian (Henderson) Maender. He graduated from Clayton High School, Quincy College and then received his MBA from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. Throughout his life he was a role model to his children, family and those around him. His priorities were first to honor God, then to love his wife, and then to raise his children to be all they could be. He attended church everyday throughout his life and volunteered in many different roles through the years. He has been active and dedicated to Christ, Prince of Peace Church for over 30 years. He wanted people to know that “the first thing in my life is my Lord and my God.” Bill and Carrie were married on August 18, 1972 sharing 26 years of marriage together and raising five children before her passing. A few years later he met Mary Ellen. They fell in love and married on May 27, 2000. They were able to share almost 20 wonderful years of life together until his passing. He was a caring and loving father of three children and stepfather to five. He would patiently correct, rebuke and encourage all of his children at every stage of life. Coaching soccer and baseball teams, volunteering as a swimming official and starter, attending and cheering at every game, ceremony and celebration filled him with joy. Golf was something he always looked forward to. He was a mentor and teacher to his children as well as countless others. He was always present and always had time to care for those he loved. Surrounded by family and friends throughout his life, he especially loved cooking and entertaining for them. You would frequently find him in the kitchen or at the grill wearing his apron smiling and laughing while preparing a meal for others. He was a giving, patient, fun-loving, faithful and caring man whom we will all miss dearly. We are grateful that his trust was in the Lord and we look forward to seeing him again.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Christ, Prince of Peace Church, 415 Weidman Road, at 11 o’clock am. Visitation will be at the church prior to the service from 10 o’clock until 11 o’clock am. Memorials to St. Vincent DePaul.
