Obituary for John F "Jack" O'Leary

John F "Jack" O'Leary
John “Jack” Fallon O’Leary On Tuesday, October 1, 2019
Son of the late Alvera (nee Fehlig) and John F. O’Leary
Loving husband to the late Gale O’Leary (nee Eddie). Dear father to Fallon, Timothy (Debbie), Daniel (Karen), Michael, Patrick (Hope), Meghan, Glennon (Diane) and Sheila (Bill) Stewart. Proud grandfather to Timothy Jr., Maggie, Kelly, Gale, Jessica, Natalie, Elizabeth, Jack, Charlie, Eddie and Vivi, great-grandfather to Quinn, Mason, Cameron, Colton, Lyla and Adair and uncle and great-uncle to countless nieces and nephews.

A life-long St. Louisan Jack worked in the family business Fehlig Bros. Box & Lumber Co. for over 50 years until his retirement. He loved helping others from jumping into his 1943 Ford army jeep to push/pull folks out of snow drifts to being a member of the University City Volunteer Fire Department. Active in the community he was a member of the Veiled Prophet Organization running the VP Fair Grounds in the mid 80’s and was friends to many of the St. Louis Police and Fire community.

He signed up and served in the Airforce National Guard during the Korean war being honorably discharged upon completion of his service.

He enjoyed playing fastpitch softball on the Fehlig Bros team becoming quite an accomplished pitcher playing the sport in 6 different decades from the 1950’s to the early 2000’s. It was an activity he shared each summer with his 6 sons and many friends over the years.

Vacations we’re usually spent with the family down in Lesterville, MO at a beautiful cabin setting on the Black River. Whether he and Mom we’re driving the kids on the old logging roads through the Ozark forests or locating fishing holes to searching for colorful rocks in the river he loved being there with his family.

He enjoyed remodeling and decorating his home with Mom as they always seemed to have a project going on around the house from wallpapering, to painting, to putting up a fence, a patio you name he and Mom probably did it.

Funeral Mass Saturday Oct 5th, 10am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Interment Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions preferred to Guardian Angel Settlement Association. Visitation Friday Oct 4th, 4-8pm at Bopp Chapel.
