Obituary for Jay B. Middleton

Jay B.  Middleton
Jay B. Middleton, 84, died peacefully at his home on January 28, 2020. Jay was born in August of 1935, in Cerro Godo, Illinois. He resided in Decatur, Illinois during his high school years and graduated from Millikin University with a B.A. in Music Education.

Beloved husband for 49 years to Barbara Middleton (nee Gould); loving father of James Middleton, Kathryn Markarian, and Richard Middleton and step father of John Wightman, Diane (Michael) Grant, and Mark Wightman; proud grandfather of Alex, Andy, and Rissie Markarian; Cole and Bryce Middleton; Jeremy (Jennifer) and Arrow (Willow) Wightman; Erik (Callie) Grant, Elizabeth (Timothy) Schwisow, Luke and Suzanne Grant; and John and Nicholas Wightman; dear great grandfather of three and friend to many.
Jay moved to the St. Louis area and started his own business. Eventually, he finished his career as a private singing teacher of 30+ years. He was a member of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing).
His passion for singing led him not only to his vocation, which included teaching and professional singing, but also stretched beyond. A baritone soloist and performance vocalist in various professional choruses in the St. Louis area.

Aside from Jay’s singing, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a writer of stories which were published in national outdoor magazines and a canadian outdoor magazine.

Jay was a Khoury League Baseball coach and team manager for many years.

Jay’s life will be remembered at Bopp Chapel on February 22, 2020 at 2 pm.
