Obituary for M. Eileen "Connelly" Witterschein

M. Eileen "Connelly" Witterschein
Witterschein, Martha Eileen (nee Connelly), 97, Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Sunday, February 9, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Roy G. Witterschein; dear mother of Marti (Bob) Stricker and Jill and the late Robert Witterschein; dearest “Mugga” to Rachel (Tony) Abram, Matthew and Sarah (Hailey) Witterschein, Delaney and Emery Abram; beloved sister of Clare M. Connelly and the late Thomas V. Connelly; dear aunt, great-aunt, cousin, friend, and ‘special mom’. Special thanks to the staff at Brookdale West County and Hope Hospice for their loving care.

Eileen became an avid walker decades ago when she began walking the family dog. She continued her daily routine, not to be slowed even by a walker, the weather, or a move to assisted living, until she was diagnosed with acute leukemia in December. Eileen loved dogs; hers, her kid’s or anyone else’s. They were treated like royalty on any visit. Her lifelong love of knitting and sewing kept her busy and no project was too small (doll clothes) or too large (wedding dress). Since she was a Halloween baby her kids and grandkids enjoyed great Halloween costumes. When her husband, Roy, passed more than 30 years ago she added new adventures and travelled and cruised in Europe and the US with longtime friends.

Daily doses of quick wit, good humor, good moods, and a glass of wine with an occasional dose of Irish temper endeared her to many earning her special “mom” titles of Mommyschein, Mugga, Me-Maw, MIT (mom in town), Irish, Madam Corky, Mum, and Aunt Eileen. Though her biggest wish was to live to 100 for that grand birthday party we are sure she will enjoy it more now with the loved ones who have gone before her. To a life well-lived. We will miss you.

Services: Visitation Thursday February 13 from 4 – 8 pm Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd. Kirkwood. Funeral Mass Friday, February 14 at 10 a.m. St. Clement of Rome Church. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions appreciated to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation, PO Box 958235, St Louis MO 63195-8235 (; Missouri Energycare Inc, 4200 Delor St, St. Louis MO 63116 (; or charity of your choice.
