Obituary for John F. "Jack" Laramie

John F. Laramie, or Jack as he was known to his family and countless friends, passed away on Saturday, February 22nd, 2020. He was born March 22nd, 1944 in St. Louis, MO to Felix and Eleanor (McBride) Laramie. He married Lana (Gibney) Laramie on June 29, 1968 and together they raised three loving children. He spent his entire 46 plus year career with McDonnell Douglas and Boeing working with the wind tunnel group to understand the aerodynamics of military and domestic aircrafts. Later in his career, his team got the chance to help design Formula One race cars. At work he loved to find creative ways to solve big technical challenges and through this work was named on a patent.

Jack enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was always eager to take part in his 5 grandchildren's sports or activities. If he wasn’t able to attend in person, he couldn't wait to hear about their accomplishments. He also taught his grandchildren that ice cream and sweets could be a meal, and they were never in short supply at grandma and grandpa’s house.

Jack was always eager to meet new people so that he could share stories about his family, grandchildren, or learn about new hobbies or interests. Jack’s true passion was his hobbies. He loved to learn everything he could about a subject and then move on to a new hobby. Over the years this ranged from woodworking to breeding rabbits and finches, creating stained glass windows, repairing watches and clocks, golf, collecting hallmark ornaments, growing orchids, shaping bonsai trees, and raising Monarch Butterflies. Nearly every weekend you would find Jack at an estate sale looking for the best deal to add to his collections. Jack was also an avid pickleball player. He enjoyed playing with his friends in both friendly games and some very competitive ones. He traveled across Florida and Missouri playing in tournaments and often placed.

Jack is preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor, his father, Felix, and his sister, Judy Kowalski. He is survived by his wife Lana; his son Jeff Laramie, his daughter Michelle Richardson, his son Jason Laramie, his sister Diane Zoellner, his sister Karen Reid, and his grandchildren, Mackenzie and Alexander Richardson, Katherine Woodrow-Frister, Myles and Brynn Laramie, and his many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that you send donations made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St Judes Children’s Research Hospital
