Obituary for Winnefred Audrey Lesandrini (Kelly)

WINNEFRED A. LESANDRINI
January 2, 1930 – May 28, 2020
Lesandrini, Winnefred (nee Kelly) was born on January 2, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri. Dear daughter of the late Walter A. and Mary Kelly; dear sister of the late Joseph, Jack, Jim, Frank and Richard Kelly and Maureen Mattingly. Winnefred was also preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Clifford Lesandrini of Crystal Falls, Michigan who she married in 1972. After his passing, Winnefred moved to Houston, Texas to live with her sister Maureen who was also a widow. In 2017, she returned to St. Louis to be nearer to her extended family. Loving aunt, great-aunt, and great-great-aunt to many who called her “Aunt Susie” based on an early childhood nickname she was given by her parents.
As a young woman, Winnefred served as a Secretary in the US Army Troop Support and Aviation Material Readiness Command. After marrying Clifford and relocating to Michigan, she became an avid contract bridge player, a game she enthusiastically enjoyed and loved to teach, and she excelled as a championship bowler. “Freddie” as she was known to her friends also developed a passion for genealogy, tracing in detail the Kelly family ancestry back over 200 years to Armagh, Ireland.
With a critical eye for fashion, “Aunt Susie” was always impeccably dressed and loved wearing a piece or two of jewelry that included a few diamonds. As she often said, “Diamonds are to be worn, not saved for special occasions.” She looked forward to any family gathering that included a cocktail hour where life could be celebrated with a cold Budweiser, a glass of Southern Comfort or a chocolate martini.
A private service will be provided by Bopp Chapel. A memorial Mass and celebration will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers or donations, enjoy spending time with your family – over your drink of choice – and give a toast to Winnefred, “Freddie” or “Aunt Susie” – she would love it!
