Obituary for Doyne Y. Bauermeister (Lewis)

Bauermeister, Doyne L (nee) Lewis of St. Charles, MO, passed away in her home the morning of June 11, 2020, in presence of family. Born on May 22, 1940 in Luebbering, MO to Walter and Vivian Lewis, her childhood included her parents owning the Luebbering Store and Post Office, knowing, growing, and being friends with the community and graduating from St.Clair High School. Her aspirations to work and achieve led her to St. Louis as a legal secretary, with recognized excellence ultimately taking her to the legal department’s patents attorney for the Monsanto Corporation. She managed the offices of subsequent family owned businesses prior to her retiring to raising children and homemaking.

She loved to travel and aspired to see every state capitol, with her only missing six. Love of family and the quest for accurate genealogy often required significant travel. Church activities included being a Sunday School teacher, VBS leader, and 25 years as the Makeup Director for the Boar’s Head Festival at Immanuel Lutheran Church of St. Charles. She was also a Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Leader, and a Room Mother. Loving to camp and fish, she took the time and patience to ensure her children had the opportunity and learned. She was an incredible cook and loved to bake. She became known for up to as many as 18 different cookie recipes providing multiple giant trays of cookies every Christmas, often being requested in subsequent years, by business customers after having been given as a gesture of appreciation for their business. Her children and grandchildren gave her enjoyment as they learned from her sharing interests and teaching to have pride in her rose and vegetable gardens. Compassion and concern for others, especially young friends of family, was a hallmark of her life. As well at 75 years of age, she fell and broke her hip so the “elder folks”, a neighbor, wouldn’t have the risk of falling. She took care of seemingly everyone, friends and family, and in some cases those she had not previously known, doing whatever was necessary to ensure they had what they needed including in some instances, a place to stay, food, and safety.

Doyne is survived by her husband of 45 years, Fred Bauermeister, Sr.; her children: Carrie (J) Harrison of Kirkwood, MO; Emma (Chris) Simpson of Kirkwood, MO; and Fred Bauermeister, JR. (Clare Carron) of Menlo Park, CA; and grandchildren Jade, Mollie, Vivian, Levi, Oliver, Henry, and Jack. She was a loved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend to many.

Visitation and funeral will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church at 505 S. Kirkwood Rd. on Tuesday, June 16. Visitation begins at 9:30am and the funeral service will be at 11am. Interment follows at the Immanuel Lutheran Church cemetery in St. Charles.

Those who wish to choose to send flowers or plants may have them delivered to the Church. Charities may be of choice.
