Obituary for Emma Lou Campbell (Gamblin)

Emma Lou Campbell (Gamblin)
Emma Lou Campbell of Glendale, Mo passed away on September 2, 2020 peacefully at her home of 56 years, she was 92.
Emma Lou was born to Otto and Hazel Gamblin on July 17,1928 in Fisk, MO, she was the eldest of two daughters. Emma was the valedictorian of her class of 1945 at Fisk High School and continued on to Business College after graduation. She married James Dennis Campbell on July 7, 1948. Their life together took them on many adventures as they traveled extensively for the first 15 years of marriage. Jim worked on the US Interstate Highway System following it across the USA. In 1963 they settled in ST. Louis which would be come their life long home. Emma gave birth to two children Rodney Dennis and Cynthia Gaye. Emma spent the majority of her life as a cosmetic consultant.
Always caring for family and friends she and Jim would open their home to countless Sunday dinners and BBQ’s. Their door was always open and she never met a stranger.
Emma is survived by her son Rod Campbell (Alice) of Kendrick ID and daughter Cindy Campbell of Columbia, MO., granddaughters Jessie Campbell (Alex Crump) of Moscow ID, Rachael Gano (Jake) of Anchorage AK, five great-grandchildren Seamus, Solveig, Laurel, Freya and Carmen, one nephew Eric Eickmeyer (Elizabeth Shands), and many dear friends and family.
Emma Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Jim, her sister Gloria Eickmeyer of Kirkwood and beloved Aunt Jessie Blaylock of St. Ann, MO.
Emma Lou’s smile was contagious and she was always smiling. She was an endless caregiver to many. There was always a pot of coffee on the stove and time to share a story or a meal over conversation. Emma never went anywhere without her lipstick on, and would remind you if you needed yours as well.
She fought the good fight and went out on her own terms…our hearts are broken but heaven is rejoicing in her spirit.
Every night before she went to bed she would talk to God and ask Him to watch over her family and friends. She would always begin with …Hello God this is Emma Lou…
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Emma Lou will be buried in a private ceremony at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.
Any remembrances should be sent to Cindy Campbell 5005 Geetha Dr. Columbia MO 65202
In lieu of flowers a donation is requested to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Missouri.
