Obituary for Judith S. Mulherin (Scannell)

Judith S. Mulherin (Scannell)
Judith S. Mulherin (Scannell) was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 20, 1939 to Robert and Edna Scannell; she was their only child. She died peacefully at The Quarters at Des Peres on September 3, 2020 at the age of 81.
Judy graduated from Nerinx Hall in Webster Groves, Missouri; a private Roman Catholic all-girls school where she developed lifelong friendships. The ladies enjoyed many gatherings together over the years talking about old times and their growing families. She worked at a dentist office and other various jobs early on but spent most of her time raising four boys and working in the home. After the kids had grown, she graduated with an associate degree at Meramec Community College and worked for St. Louis Special School District until she retired in 2004.
Judy was a longtime member of St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church in Kirkwood, Missouri where she served as a Lector and actively participated in Bible Study, Eucharistic Adoration, and the Marian Guild. As her health declined and she was unable to attend church, she still took Holy Communion when a member of the parish would make a Communion Call to her home. She developed many friends at St. Gerard’s and will be missed by all.
Known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren as Grandma Judy, she will be dearly missed by her children: David Mulherin Jr., Michael Mulherin (Rachel), Steven Mulherin (Nancy Nations), and Joseph Mulherin (Kathi); grandchildren Lauren Mulherin, Heather Petrie (Max), Shawn Mulherin (Bailey), Bryan Socha (Amy), Ryan Mulherin (Kelly), Andy Mulherin, Amanda Mulherin, Jacob Mulherin, John Mulherin, and Clare Mulherin; great grandchildren Andrew and Everett Petrie
Judy was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Edna Scannell.

Services: Visitation Friday, Sept. 11, 4-6 p.m. at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd., Kirkwood. Funeral Mass Sat., Sept. 12, 10:30 a.m. at St Gerard Majella Catholic Church. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Louis.
