Obituary for Charles Eugene Humburg

Charles Eugene Humburg
On Tuesday, November 10, 2020, Charles “Chuck” Eugene Humburg, beloved son, brother, and father of two daughters passed away after a more than 60 day battle against COVID-19 at the age of 61.

Chuck was the son of Christopher and Sandra Humburg (née Kolkmann) and was born on February 4, 1959 in St. Louis, Missouri. He grew up in Scott City, Missouri, graduating from Scott City High School in 1977, and Southeast Missouri State University in 1982. Chuck was a proud member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He eventually settled in St. Charles, Missouri, working as a history teacher and basketball coach for several years. He later dedicated his time to a career in sales. He had two daughters, Molly Larson (née Humburg) and Hannah Humburg.

Chuck deeply valued his family, friends, music, and sports, in no particular order. He never met a stranger, found friends wherever he went, and had a unique ability to make connections among people. If you were lucky enough to meet Chuck, you had a friend for life. He had a passion for travel, and he never missed the opportunity for an adventure. He attended countless Ozark Mountain Daredevil concerts as well as every major sporting event he could nab a ticket to. He was known for his love of music, his goofy demeanor and infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

Chuck is survived by his father Chris, his mother Sandy, his daughters Molly and Hannah, son-in-law Jeff Larson, his sisters Renee (John) Shrewsbury, Cheryl (Donald) Washburn, Christine Henderson, girlfriend Kristi DeVries, his dog Cooper, several nieces and nephews, and countless friends. A private service was held among immediate family in light of surging COVID-19 cases across the state. The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life event next summer for Chucks’ friends and family; details are forthcoming.

In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a GoFundMe to carry on Chuck’s legacy. The fund will reflect Chuck’s love of music combined with furthering educational opportunities for students. Any donations to the Chuck Humburg Music for All Foundation will be contributed to a pending nonprofit organization. The organization will aim to provide for musical instruction, instruments, therapy, and scholarships for underserved students and students with special needs.
